CHARACTERS ROLE
Jem Finch's role in this novel is that he is growing up, finding things out about people that he didn't know before. He is ambitious and brave, not backing down to dares when faced to him. Most of the dares that Dill and Jean Louise (Scout) assigned him was to do with Arthur Radley (Boo). His ideas of people all being good were put into action at the being of the trial of Tom Robinson. Jem Finch gave Scout guidance, and instructions on many occasions such as, being polite, not making herself look silly, how to adjust to school and how to keep adults from being mad at her. His role was to protected Scout to the best of his ability, as he is her big brother.

ESSENTIAL QUESTION:
How does fear and ignorance affect society?
He mostly connects to this question because he sees a lot of fear and ignorance affecting society, it also effects him.

INSIDER OR OUTSIDER:
Jem Finch is an insider because he is white. Being white means Jem fits into the community and is treated a lot better then if he was black. Being a black person meant you could not do many things whites can do and are treated not nicely.
